Lynn & Dave's visit to Boston

Recently Jude and Marguerite were delighted to host Jude's cousin Lynn and her husband Dave. They had scooted up to Boston from New Jersey for an action packed, fun filled weekend.

After arriving in super fast time, due to 'Roadrunner' Lynn's driving, the gang set off to explore Boston's famous Freedom Trail.

Jude reckoned that starting at the end of the Trail and working your way back into the city works best so that meant they got started in the beautiful streets of Charlestown where they dandered up Monument Avenue to...........

...........the Bunker Hill Monument. This pic is a bit dodgy to say the least. It was not dark outside, it was actually broad daylight but Jude claims that neither he nor the camera were focused yet. Anyway....if you look closely you will see Marguerite, Dave and Lynn. Talk about ruining a good pic!!

The Bunker Hill monument commemorates a famous battle between the Patriots and the occupying forces of the British Army. It's a very beautiful monument and was built nearly 200 years ago.

The 294 steps to the top can be a challenge and so it proved today as both Lynn and Dave had to stop for quite a few breathers on the way up........

.......before reaching the top, where it was all smiles. Ok........so halfway up Jude tried to hand his camera to Lynn and somehow the darn thing fell and let's just say it got a little injured.

This pic's not too bad but as you move from Lynn on the left over to Marguerite on the right you will notice the pic becoming a little more blurred as you go. Wha?

Next stop was the USS Constitution, Old Ironsides herself. Here are L-R, Jude, Dave, Marguerite and Lynn. Lynn has been to Ireland herself a few times and her last visit was with Dave's mum (Ada) when they visited Jude in August 2000 at the time he lived in Meadowhill Grange in Belfast.

Oh no, it's the blurry right hand side again.
'Here Lynn, Jude's a total melter, he's always rambling on about not dropping things and sure all he ever does is drop thon camera, this'll be the fourth bloody camera he has been through since we came to a America, he's drive ye nuts he would', said Marguerite to Lynn.

'The British are coming, the British are coming', or something like that was what Paul Revere screamed at Patriots John Hancock and Samuel Adams way back in 1775.

Here at his statue, with The Old North Church in the background are: Jude, Dave and Lynn.
Around this time Dave began commenting 'Something smells good around here'.

Here are Lynn and Marguerite as they enter Paul Revere's house in the North End. This place was class. It was preserved with all the old cool stuff in there from when Paul Revere lived there from around 1770 - 1800.

'Ummmm.....something sure smells good around here.....ummm that's the nicest smell ever, what is that?, rambled Dave.

Here's a team pic outside Paul Revere's house.

'Ok, I need to know......what's that lovely smell', continued Dave.

At this stage of the day the gang were of course in the North End, which is otherwise known as Little Italy and so the smells Dave kept rambling on about were just the gorgeous wifts coming from the many local restaurants. And all Dave got was a trip to Mike's Pastries for a tea and a cranoli!!

This Freedom Trail plaque is placed on a street path in the North End.

The Old Statehouse and the site of the Boston Massacre brought the gang into contact with a few British Redcoats (not literally). Here Dave and Marguerite have a laugh with this very tall soldier.

Then Lynn and Marguerite have a close encounter with this British soldier.

Lynn and Dave's daughter Maddie is on a one-girl crusade to save the world's lobsters. She has been recorded in a school TV report commenting on why lobsters should be spared the boiling pot....hehehehe. Now that's all good and noble of Maddie of course, but lobster is much to nice for that malarky. Here Maddie's mum & dad show which side of the fence they are on. 'Sorry Maddie, we love eating lobster more than we love saving it, but you keep up the good work, 'said Lynn.

Marguerite and Lynn dandering through the Public Garden but just what are they laughing at?

They're laughing at this edjit here (the blurred object on the right is in fact a one man band). What a Muppet!

What a wally. Lynn and Marguerite were not the only folk who thought he was hilarious.

Lynn has spotted the 'Make Way For Ducklings' statues and hops on for a pic.

Today was great craic altogether and a welcome return to Boston for Lynn and Dave.

So after a long day out and about, walking the streets of Boston, there was one final place to go before dinner...............

The Prudential Tower for cocktails of course.

Visitors to Boston will surely agree that these cheeky wee numbers are pure class and will perfectly polish off any day. Here Lynn, Dave and Jude say, 'Slainte'. (Eh....perhaps the photographer can't blame the blur on this pic - it looks more like he / she just made a mess of the pic....wha?).

After visiting the Prudential, Lynn, Dave, Marguerite and Jude finished their day with a meal at the Beacon Street Tavern. Nice!!
