Thanksgiving Day 2012

Thanksgiving is a great holiday.  It provides an opportunity to step back from normal activities and to give thanks for whatever you want to give thanks for ....... everyone has their own reasons ..... and of course it's when families and friends come together to relax and have fun.  This year Marguerite and Jude were giving thanks for the gift they received in their son Ben, and they were joined for the day by Clare.

Clare's Mum Margo (who Marguerite and Jude met last year when she was over visiting Clare) had sent over this wee holy medal for Ben.  That was very nice and thoughtful of Margo to do so.  Here is Marguerite showing off the medal.

Clare has already given Ben lots of gifts but with it being Thanksgiving and with his Christening fast approaching she managed to find another reason for giving him another gift.

And here is the gift, it's a bib saying 'Baby's First Thanksgiving'.  Doesn't that look cool on Ben.  Wha?

And here is Clare try her best no to dirty the new bib.

Marguerite may be wide awake but poor Ben's still half asleep here.

Thanksgiving really feels a lot like Christmas ............ without the tree of course.  It's a great get-together event and arguably the main focus is food, and lots of it.  Today Clare had baked this class Cheesecake and here is Marguerite sticking it in the fridge.

Today's starter was Prawn cocktail (or shrimp cocktail as it's known by Bubba, Forrest and everyone else in America). It was devoured in record time and the gang were quickly onto their main course.  Today was Marguerite's first chance to have a wee glass of wine in 8 months or so.  Within an hour she would be talking like a washing machine!!!

Jude reckoned that today's meal was just the best he had tasted in ages.  Sure look at it here ....... turkey, stuffing, potatoes, sprouts, carrots, gravy, roasties, parsnips ........ the heap ...... all topped off with some delicious Branston.  Nice!!!

Here's Jude and Marguerite celebrating Thanksgiving in their own home for the first time in their 4 years in America (2009 - Toronto Canada, 2010 - Washington DC, 2011 - New Jersey). With Ben on board this year they decided that they would not travel afar.  Sure this was just perfect.

The plan for this Thanksgiving day went something like this -

Eat starter, drink wine, eat main course, drink Baileys, watch Macy's New York Thanksgiving Parade (3 hours) on TV, eat 1st dessert, drink wine, eat 2nd desert, drink beer, eat chocolates, watch Patriots v Jets game, crash out. Perfect!

As another dessert Marguerite made a great triffle, as you can see here.  It was topped with flake, cream, the heap, magnificent it was!! And the Baileys was rather nice too.  Jude buys a bottle of it for Christmas each year and this year with having Thanksgiving at home he bought it a little early, and a little larger.

A quick change of outfit for Ben.  He looks like he could just walk onto the Boston Celtics team!!

Here's a nice picture of the new Clarke family.

Ben just loves his auld Da ........... and vice versa!

'My Mama's fat, my Dada's fat but I'm just chubby', Ben may have been singing to himself.

Clare and Marguerite congratulate themselves on a fantastically prepared Thanksgiving dinner.

And after all the wine Marguerite guzzled today she was the one who ended up needing Ben's bib!!!
