Washington DC

Last week Marguerite went on a trip to Washington DC. It was a business trip but seeing as the weather was good and she had a few hours to kill, then a spot of sight seeing was in order. And rightly so too. So Jude put his requests in nice and early before she left. All he asked for was: a) a pic of the White House, and b) a Washington mug. The mug was scooped straight easily enough, but the pic, well that was another story.

Soon enough Marguerite was asking herself, 'Now what does that stupid White House look like'. She began taking pics of every building that was white in the hope that sooner or later one would hit the spot. This was the first one Marguerite stumbled across. Wha?

The Ronald Reagan Building can be seen in the pic below sitting in the background. It was quickly ruled out of the race to find the White House because it has a........eh........a red roof.

Marguerite moved on and found this building which, according to the sign, was the Department of the Treasury building. 'I reckon that sign is wrong, this is definately the White House here, I'm sure of it, this is the White House' said Marguerite. And the camera clicked and clicked............

..........and clicked........
............and clicked. Even passers by were clicking away like good ones at this spot below. 'This must be it, sure everyone's taking pics of this one, I know a white house when I see one', said Marguerite.

Marguerite moved on again and found this tower. 'Maybe this is it here', she said. 'Excuse me mamm, what is this?' Marguerite asked a tour guide who was showing 2 bus loads of Japanese tourists the tower. 'That's the Washington Memorial', replied the guide. 'Are you sure, is it not the White House?' 'No miss, this is the Washington Memorial which was built to honour the First President of America, George Washington', replied the guide. 'There are so many White buildings in this town, it would drive ya nuts, I'll never find the stupid White House at this rate', said Marguerite.

'Sure I'll take a pic of this Washington Memorial thingy anyway and tell Jude it's the White house, sure he'll never know any different, he'll be none the wiser thon boy'.

The Lincoln Memorial and Reflecting Pool seen here below have famously been used in quite a few Holywood films, e.g. Forrest Gump, but it soon became another contender in the hunt for the White House. 'Well it was white and it looked like a big house to me' said Marguerite when quizzed later.
And on she moved. To the left here is a pic of the Washington Public Library. The Washington Public Library is where folk go to get books...........hold on a cotton pickin minute folks..........that's not a library, that's the White House! 'Finally I found it, I can't believe I've found it', said Marguerite.

That's all fair craic and good fun folks, but Marguerite's trip to Washington was not for sightseeing or galavanting around shops looking for mugs. It was a very important business trip. The fact that she managed to fit in all the dandering around chasing things for Jude was very kind and thoughtful of her. But the main reason and the highlight of her trip to Washington was of course her attendance at a Trade and Investment business lunch where the speaker was former US President Bill Jefferson Clinton. Here is a pic taken by Marguerite from her table.
