Hawaii is one of those places Marguerite and Jude have dreamt of visiting, so it was great to make that dream become a reality as they decided to have a wee holiday down there for a week. There is a 6 hour time difference between Hawaii and Boston so it was no surprise that Jude was wide awake at 5.00 am on the first morning - he took this pic while laying on a deck chair on the beach at 6.00 am on that first morning.
The first full day of the Hawaii trip was also Marguerite's birthday. Another year wiser she is as she opens all her cards........
Hawaii is a beautiful place, it is a collection of 6 large islands (and a few smaller ones) stuck in the middle of the Pacific ocean. The island of Kauai was selected and a great choice it turned out to be too as there was loads of cool activities to do.
Here is Marguerite setting off Kayaking on an outdooor adventure on the River Wailua.
Lesson for today - Never row a Kayak backwards. That is what fellow adventurers Mike and Amy tried to do before tipping 'arse over tit' into the river. Most folk would be naturally concerned for their safety but not Marguerite she giggled and tee-hee-ed the whole way down the river for the next 10 minutes. Oh, by the way, Mike and Amy survived, not that Marguerite cared too much mind you.
'Welcome to the jungle, we've got fun and games, you learn to live like an animal, in the jungle where we play, welcome, welcome to the jungle', sang Jude - as the tour moved further into the jungle.....
The next stage of the tour was a hike through the jungle. As Emma would say - 'Aye yer hat Jude', aye dead on sure. His only defense was that at least it was colour co-ordinated with the jungle and thon wet thingy they carried to things dry!!!!!
Thomas the tour guide was a wealth of local knowledge - here he shows some ancient Hawaiian settlement ruins.
Marguerite skipped through the jungle in anticipation of getting to the 'secret' destination of the tour.
The scenery in the Wailua River area was pretty class. Here Jude and Marguerite take a wee break alongside the river.
Thomas really was a font of knowledge on the hike - here he explains how the 'Walking Palm Tree' works. This was fascinating stuff folks. Unlike most trees the roots of this tree grow above ground and grow downwards from a height of about 4 feet but then amazing they die and new roots grow outwards in another direction and over time the trees move up to 30 feet!!!!! So plant one of these wee numbers in your garden and in ten years time it will have moved to the other side of your garden!!! Wha?
The secret destination was 'Secret Falls' a stunning 150 foot waterfall hiden in the middle of the jungle. Here is the view from the top of the hill as the group reached the falls.
Directly in below the waterfall is where Jude really wanted to be, that's where the action was folks. It was the best power shower ever - no doubt about it.
Marguerite was brave but opted to stay well clear of the powerful center of the falls -she still managed to get her hair wet though.
An hour was spent at the waterfall having fun and acting the edjits in the water. Sure why not, it really was a class spot?
After all the messing around in the water it's time for lunch. Now the island of Kauai is known for it's huge population of chickens which roam freely everywhere. It's great, Jude loves these things, he even had a pet one when he was a wee fella, Benny it was called. Poor Benny used to lay an egg a day before biting the dust at the hands of a dog one day. What was left of poor Benny is buried in Tullymally some place. On Kauai the crowing of these things in the morning was a great wee sound to start the day.
Ok, you've seen it before but these falls were so nice here is another look. This pic gives a better view of just how high they were.
Before long it was back on with the shoes and off hiking again the group went.
Marguerite was chattering away to this doll Erin all the way back through the jungle......
.......and across the rivers.
This trip ended with a nice Kayak back up the river. There is a video attached so you can get a better picture of the journey back (see below).
With all the energy burned up today the evening was spend just having a beer and chilling out in the beach front hotel.
The next day was just a day to relax on the beach, take things easy.......
.......lark around, let yer hair blow all over the joint.........
..........put the feet up, chill out.........
........go for a dander along the lovely sandy beach with yer new guns n roses t-shirt on............
.........go for a dip in the (warm) water.....
......and scream all over the place like a mad yin.
Spot the geeks posing at the tree with the beach in the background. These pics were taken from the room which was about 20 ft off the beach.
Here Marguerite looks cool as she poses beside thon tree.
Jude throws on the barbie and cooks up a nice feed for tea. The bbq was a nice wee addition to this place especially as Jude and Marguerite now live in an apartment. So full use of it was made during this stay. Well for two nights anyway!!
Aha, soon enough the heat is getting to Jude and as he does not like to overdo things he takes a bit of a break for a wee refreshment.
'Keep yer eye on the grub Marguerite, I smell somethin burnin'. Marguerite trys her hand at the bbq business.
'Captain Morgan, undercooked Corn and burnt saaasaages, yummy', says Marguerite.
This pic was taken from the room just as the evening set in.
Another morning and another 6.00am 20ft dander to the beach to watch the spectacular sunrise. Jude got into a wee habit of getting up, going for a 5 mile run and then coming back, making a cup of tea and sitting on the beach reading his book and supping the tea. It's been said before - but it's the simple things that make some folk happy and this was as good as it gets.
