Marguerite and Jude's trip to New York continued with a visit to the huge Empire State building. Since it was built in 1931 until the early 1970's the Empire State Building was the tallest building in the world.
It is truly one of the grandest buildings in the world and a 'must see' in New York.
'Hey Marguerite, King Kong once climbed the Empire State Building and had this big mad fight with a couple of fighter planes while holding some doll in his hand', said Jude. 'Wise up Jude, that didn't happen, you're making that up, an ape couldn't climb the Empire State Building', replied Marguerite.
The 'night-time' views from the top of the Empire State building were spectacular.
Marguerite copes well up at the top of these types of buildings but Jude just can't cut it, he completely clams up, gets all frightened, his knees start to wobble and all that lark. It's funny to watch no doubt. He said, 'I love the thrill of going up there but when I get there I'm petrified, I can hardly move, but the excitement is like when getting on a rollercoaster, you know, as if the building is going to topple over'. The fella's nuts!!!!
'Hey Jude, bloody hell, you were right, look, there's King Kong at the top of the Empire State Building just as you described it, amazing, that's mad'. Marguerite takes in another one of Jude's jackanory stories.
Not another Christmas tree pic. Yes, but this time both Jude and Marguerite are in it.
Marguerite thought this model of the building, which was made out of sweets, was pretty darn cool.
Macy's is one of the most famous shops in the world (and claims to be the biggest). It was like a tourist attraction itself. Of course it has featured in many films etc, but mostly folk just wanted a glimpse...........
.....of the amazing shop window displays. These things were class - all 3 dimensional and in full motion. Pretty cool indeed.
Back in Times Square and Jude does his best Madness walk impersonation. Tonight another Broadway show was on the agenda. No queuing this time following a late arrival at the ticket desk after a day's sightseeing.
But tickets were still scored for the Beatles show 'Rain'. Class!!!
Walking down 52nd street the next day Jude and Marguerite nabbed a couple of peppermint canes of this dude here. Wha?
Nothing beats a dander through Central Park on a sunny Sunday afternoon.
Always sitting on the fence that boy is, I say he's always sitting on the fence!
'Strawberry Fields Forever' - By coincidence this happened to be around the 30th anniversary of John Lennon's murder and it was fitting that this was when Jude finally made it to the Strawberry Fields area of Central Park. Jude had wanted to visit here in June last year with Marguerite, Aideen and Megan but the girls were not to fussed that day as they felt their wee legs had been walked off them already at that stage!!!
Continuing the Beatles theme here as Marguerite tries to replicate the Beatles 'Help' album cover.
This monument to John Lennon simply saying 'Imagine' was a very popular spot today.
The Dakota building. This is were John Lennon lived and where he was shot dead. After signing an autograph for some punter earlier in the day, the same punter came back and shot him just on the footpath outside the gate there.
The mean Fiddler is a cool wee pub on 47th Street. Jude and Marguerite made this their local for 3 days and very nice it was too. As it was perfectly located in Broadway it served as a good first post before a show.
Even the buildings in New York's 5th Avenue get dolled up in Christmas decorations at this time of year.
In the huge NBA (basketball) store Marguerite measures her hand up against that of Boston's Shaq O'Neill. That's right Marguerite show your colours there girl.
Marguerite has a big smile on her face, that can only mean one thing - there's shopping going on!!!!!
Is it the Polar Express? Nope, it's the still operational 1927 'E' line train which is about to escort Marguerite and Jude away from this very enjoyable visit to New York.
