Continuing their trip in Washington DC Jude and Marguerite stumbled across this rather cool looking building. It is of course the famous White House which has been the residency of every U.S. President except the very first one, George Washington. The amazing thing about this building is just how it is still standing given that it is so old. Construction began in 1792 and it was built by an Irishman called James Hoban.
You may remember Jude and Marguerite using Segways in both Atlanta and Chicago. Well after hearing that the developer of Segways copped an unfortunate one by driving his off the edge of a cliff (not very wise that), Jude and Marguerite decided to give them a miss on this occasion.
'Hey Jude, I think I'll stick a tenner on this one to win the National next year', says Marguerite.
It's the auld leaning tour of Pisa shot but this time at the Washington memorial. Marguerite gave jude directions like, 'up a bit, left a bit, right a bit.......', etc. Let's just say, don't ever let Marguerite direct you into a parking spot if you're parking your car. This attempt at the leaning tower of Pisa shot was a bit of a disaster really.
Putting a brave face on in the bitter cold while striking a super cool pose outside the White House.
Capital hill from a distance.
It was soooo cold today that Marguerite even tried to climb this lamppost to get some heat from the auld light bulb thingy!!!!!
Here is the Pentagon. The Pentagon was of course one of the buildings hit on 9/11 2001. You can just see the difference here in the colour of the brick on either side (especially the left hand side) where the new brick is a brighter colour than the old. This was the spot where the plane went into the building.
Going......
going.......
.........gone. Marguerite has finally lost her head completely this time as she tries to avoid the cold breeze now cutting through Washington.
'Jude, take a pic of me here, sure it looks like I'm in Ireland', says Marguerite.
The museum of the American Indian was a fascinating place. This story, of the Indians and their removal from the lands they had inhabited for centuries, is often forgotten in modern times.
The Washington Memorial at sunset. Nice.
This is Ford's Theater in Washington. Besides being a top theater it is also famous (or infamous) for being the site of President Abraham Lincoln's assassination in 1865.
Eh....well actually.......he was shot in Ford's Theater but later died in this house straight across the street. You can see clearly here the big sign saying, 'House where Lincoln Died'. Wha?
Tonight Marguerite and Jude paid a visit to Ford's Theater to see a show (this is the new renovated entrance).
With the Theater being of such historical importance they also have a cool wee museum to Abraham Lincoln there. Here is Jude having a look at Honest Abe's book as he gives a speech. Aye dead on sure!
Tonight's show was 'A Christmas Carol', and very good it was too. Poor Marguerite was petrified when the ghosts started appearing to auld Scrooge!!!! Here's Scrooge himself standing beside the poster thingy there.
It's Marguerite and Jude's last night in Washington and no better way to finish off their trip than with a nice cup of tea and a Krispy Kreme doughnut. Marguerite loves those things, I say she loves 'em.
On leaving Washington International airport Jude managed to take this cool pic of the Pentagon from the sky. Cool, wha?
Goodbye Washington.
In Feb Jude took a pic of the New york from above but these ones he reckons are even better.
Lower Manhattan and........
..........Midtown and Central Park. Class!!!!!
Back in beautiful Boston.
