Final Ski day 2011

So it's the last weekend in March and amazingly there is still skiing to be done. This has been a particularly cold winter with lots of snow (just like 2009). Indeed the snow is likely to remain on the slopes until maybe the first or second week of April. Nice!!!

So with Marguerite away for her part working/part gallivanting trip to Belfast, rather than go alone Jude dragged Roberto De Matteo with him for a day on the slopes.

Here they are on the 'Simpsons' bus as they make their way through Fitchburg and up the mountain.

Today Robert is using Marguerite's pass. So he was duly sent up to the rental shop to 'get-off-side' while Jude picked up the tickets. Wha? The last time Robert skied was on a school trip. He spent the whole train journey saying it was so long ago he was not sure if he could still ski. He went on about not being able to remember it too well, he might have lost his touch, etc, etc, blah, blah.....

So after listening to Robert go on about his long ago trip, Jude eventually asked him, 'Hey Mit when exactly was that school ski trip?' So Jude expected Robert to say 15 or 16 years ago. However the Mit replied, 'eh, it was 6 years ago, in 2005'.

Here is the Mit.....eh......putting on his....eh.... his Mit!!! Wha?

Before you could say 'it sure is a nice day for skiing squire', Robert was off like a man possessed, flying down the slopes with the confidence and the skill of a seasoned pro. And to think he filled Jude's head full of crap the whole way up on the train about being a beginner!!!

Spot the big goofy looking edjit in this pic.

No, it's not Robert.............have another look just below him.

Amazingly the slopes were in great condition and Robert picked it up again again like a duck-to-water.

With the slopes not being packed today Jude and Robert had were up and down about 30 times, which is of course a world record!!!

Robert fell once and for the first time in years Jude fell too (when he was going about 50 miles an hour around a corner - seriously it was spectacular, with skis, snow, legs, sunglasses, arms, gloves, the heap flying every where).

'Ye never lose it Jude, I say ye never lose it mucker', shouts Robert as he takes off.

Howdy!!!

'Here Robert, that's nearly a hundred runs we've did today mate, it surely must be some sort of record', says Jude. 'Wise up, it's about 30, maybe 28 or so, ye can't do a hundred ski runs in a single day are ye mad?' Replied Robert.

Not so cool!!!!

Definitely not cool!!!!

So this is where this season's skiing comes to an end.

It's been another great year where everyone's skills have improved so much there is a serious chance that qualification for the next winter Olympics is a distinct possibility for Marguerite, Jude and even the Mit. So............bring on the snow in December!!!!!!
