Marguerite, Jude and Lindsay took themselves off to see the town of Newport in Rhode Island for the day. Here is a cool pic of Marguerite and Lindsay down on the rocky shoreline.
There is no better way to see an historic small town like Newport than on foot so a walking tour was swiftly sorted out by Jude and off they went. This joint here is listed as the oldest tavern in America dating back to the 1600's. Wha?
Next stop was the Jailhouse Inn. This place used to be a................jail in the auld days. Later it was used as a Police station and then, when a new station was built, it was bought and opened as a hotel. Marguerite and Lindsay thought this would be a great place to live. 'It can be arranged folks', commented Jude.
Soon enough Marguerite and Lindsay were melting Jude's head so much he got the Innkeeper to lock em up good and proper. That'll teach those two melters!!
Jude poses at a street named after himself - Clarke Street.
Marguerite and Lindsay had a great wee day walking all over and finding out about Newport's history. They tried to abandon the walking tour on a couple of occasions only for Jude to reel them back in and drag them to another great historical sight. Here they take a break to rest their feet.
The architecture in this town was really class and the even though the buildings were hundreds of years old they were brilliantly preserved.
'What's this, another break? You must be joking............get up ya lazy gits, we've more class sights to see'. 'But Jude, just a 5 minute break please'.
Then out of the blue while on the walking tour an unexpected surprise was sprung when doing a wee spot of 'windy shappin'. Of all the coincidences that could possibly happen.........
.......the Irish Baseball team just happened to be playing in Newport at 5.00pm that very day. Wha? Folks, it is impossible to make this up and just in case you are doubting this, here is the evidence!!!!
So this was an opportunity not to be missed and therefore it was decided that after the walking tour, the game would be watched. The afternoon was then spent walking around with Jude mumbling, 'I can't believe the Irish Baseball team are playing here.......and we are here, what a coincidence, it's mad, I can't believe it'.
And here are the Irish lads ready for action. Jude reckons he might be able to make his way onto this team. Others may not think so, but in his mind he thinks he's good enough so let's just let him think that he is.
However within minutes of the team pics being taken and just minutes prior to the game start time, the heavens opened and this was the scene. A complete downpour!!!!
The only dry spots in the ground were near the back of the stand. Here Marguerite and Lindsay huddle up as the rains falls.
The rain came on so quick even the players ran into the stands. Some looked happy while some looked glum.
Of course it was sod's law that after looking forward to the game all day the rain led to the game being postponed until the next day.......typical. Our opportunity to see the Irish National team came to nothing. So you don't think this fella Hernandez is Irish, well he is so, he lives in Dublin and works in the Temple Bar area in the food business.
After the rain cleared a drive around the famous mansions of Newport followed. When checking out this spooky looking place Marguerite decided to go mountain climbing across some highly treacherous terrain.
