Martha's Vineyard

Martha's Vineyard, is an island off the coast of Massachusetts. It is famous for it's beautiful scenery, beaches, relaxed way of life and for being a place for the rich and famous to holiday. Like, for example, President Obama enjoyed a holiday there last year and will do so again this month. Here's a pic of some randomers on a family cycle along the cool 10 mile cycle path.

Anyway, Jude and Marguerite are neither rich nor famous - but that did not stop them nipping over for a day for the craic, sure why not? Check out the cool yellow Mini Cooper Zipcar which was hired for the day!!! Nice.

The ferry ride from Woods Hole in Cape Cod to Oak Bluffs in Martha's Vineyard was very nice indeed. Marguerite Snr and Michael Snr may recognise that wee town there, it's Woods Hole on Cape Cod and it was to there that they cycled with Jude and Marguerite way back in the good auld days......in March 2009!!!! Remember that, folk falling off bikes, folk eating stinking chowder, folk running into trees, etc. Is it really that long ago? They were the days, no sorry......... these are the days folks!

Punters, day-trippers, freaks, weirdos, cool folk, freeloaders, normal folk and gangsters aplenty - all sorts flock to the Vineyard through the summer months for fear of missing something.

The first town visited on Martha's Vineyard was Vineyard Haven. Jude reckons some edjit once told him, 'you've made it if you have a boat'. Jude wants to know does that still apply if your boat is just a rubber Dingy. Wha? Didn't think so. There were literally millions of boats parked at this island, millions I tell ya.

Edgartown now ranks as possibly the most beautiful town ever seen by Marguerite and Jude.

It had a completely relaxed and chilled-out mood to it and Jude quickly became convinced he could settle here no bother at all, I say, no bother at all.

Marguerite loves sitting down doing nothing.......eh sorry, I meant Marguerite loves relaxing at the end of a hard week of work. Here she is in Martha's Vineyard sitting snacking in Edgartown harbour.

'I'm just sitting on the dock of the bay......I watch the ships roll in and then I watch them roll away again......I'm just sitting on the dock of the bay, waaaaasting tiiiiiime'.

The Victorian Inn - this is the hotel that Jude and Marguerite had intended staying in before they decided to slum it and take the Zipcar and then the ferry with the freaks and return to Boston the same day. It turns out you do really have to be rich and famous to stay here, or nomal but slightly stupid perhaps. To stay in this joint for 2 nights was the equivalent of a return flight to Ireland. Wha? Aye, dead on squire, dead on say.

Further around the town front and the scenery is just great whether Marguerite is in the pics or not.

Here is Marguerite sitting down watching a wedding from across the street. Yeah, watching a wedding like, like what exactly is there to watch?

Oak Bluffs was another nice wee town. The whole place seemed to have been built in the 1800's and not altered since.

The scenery down Oak Bluffs was cool too. Unfortunately Marguerite and Jude left their swimming gear at home today so they had to just watch from the shore.

Those places across the street are meant to be hotels - they're a little on the spooky looking side. Marguerite reckons a stay in the joint on the extreme left would be good fun but Jude said there would be no way you would catch him in there in day time never mind staying overnight!!!

A quick jaunt around Martha's Vineyard was the perfect way to spend this particular Sunday, sure what else would ya be doing? The island bus service was magic for getting around quickly and seeing everything, it did the job as they say.

Either you have it or you don't........and folks......this fella has definitely NOT got it.
