Boston College v Northwestern

Most photos which get placed at the top of each post on this blog get placed there due to being able to sum up (as best as possible) the story of that post. But every now and again a post will begin with a pic just because....well because it's just a great pic. Like this one of the cheerleaders performing a twisting airborne manourver at the Boston College v Northwestern American football game. This was acrobatics at it's best......class!!!!!
Jude and Marguerite met their mate Tom outside. Here the 3 of them got their pic taken while the Irish band which plays at every BC game played away in the background.
'Here Jude, I think our seats are over here', said Marguerite.
You see - Marguerite, Jude and Tom had managed to get lost and sat in the wrong seats for 20 mins wondering where their friend Ally was. Mid way through the 1st quarter they were shifted goodo from the seats when the folk arrived who owned them. They then made their way to their correct seats and hooked up with Ally who had of course been patiently waiting for the three stoogies. In this pic Jude is trying to look cool while getting blinded by the sun!!!! That is difficult when not wearing sunglasses, as Jude proves here.

The arrival of the players onto the playing field is always very dramatic. Firstly, there are soooo many players ye'd wonder how on earth the manager remembers all their names. Secondly their arrival is combined with all the cheerleading and the playing of a huge brass band of over 100 members!!!!! It's nuts but magic at the same time.

Here is part of the band as it snakes it's way through the crowd. Look closely and you'll also see Marguerite and Tom nattering away there like champions.

Irish sports do not have cheerleading, so it's always fun to see this at an American football or basketball game. Marguerite claims she often enjoys this more than the games and will even admit that she wishes she had been a cheerleader.

The BC team is nicknamed The Eagles and here is their Eagle mascot.

Tom, Marguerite, Jude and Ally enjoy the game.

Amazingly 45,000 people go to each Boston College home game. Putting that into perspective it's more than many Premier League Soccer teams play in front of. It's seems unreal as it is a college sport!! But then again college sport is huge in America.
Here BC nervously defend a play by Northwestern a couple of yards from their own endzone.

But ultimately BC lost as the game ended - Boston College 17 Northwestern 24. Nevertheless a great day out was had by all at this great American game.
